Melaka, or Malacca, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Malaysia. The city's colonial past is well preserved and that indeed is a major pull for tourists traveling from across the world. I had Melaka in my bucketlist since a long time, and so I planned a Malaysian escape. Mine was a day journey from Kuala Lumpur. With this blog, I wish to tell you about a few things you need to know before you visit Melaka. So let's begin!
1. You can definitely go for a day trip from Kuala Lumpur

Malacca is merely 150 km away from Kuala Lumpur, which makes it among the top day trips from the capital city. That is not all, the ease of connectivity between the two places make commuting a breeze. Of course you can always self drive, but if you are want to know how to reach Malacca from Kuala Lumpur, I will tell you. Before I begin, I would strongly recommend you book your tickets a day prior you plan to go for the trip.
Simply reach TBS Station and collect you boarding pass. Yes! This is a mandatory step, even if you have the online ticket. Just follow the sign boards or ask the executive at the counter about your gate. The bus will drop you at Melaka Sentral, from where you can easily find another bus heading to city centre, you may also opt for Uber, but it not might be easily available. You don't have to book tickets for this bus ride as it's frequent and not crowded.
Ticket cost: Kuala Lumpur - Malacca Sentral- MYR 24 | Malacca Sentral - Malacca city centre: MYR 2
2. Vegetarians might need to do some research

If you have been living in Kuala Lumpur, you may know that the vegetarian food options here come quite easily; at least in comparison with other cities in Malaysia, including Malacca. Being a vegetarian with hunger pangs may feel like a punishment if you haven't planned where you'd eat. This is a challenge, specially if you are a Brahman vegetarian who cannot eat at a place where non-vegetarian food is prepared.
3. Put aside some money for shopping too, you'll love it

The Jonker Street in Malacca is arrayed with boutique showrooms and street shop selling artsy knick knacks, apparels and what not! There is no way you can get away without spending money. Most of the items here are reasonably priced, so you can call it a shopaholic's paradise. To add cherry to the top, if you are traveling during the weekends, you mustn't miss night market (Fridays and Saturdays). This is recommended for those planning a stay.
4. You can hire bicycles or can walk to explore

Malacca can be explored on foot easily, as most of places of interest in Malacca are located close to each other - such as Christ Church, Jonker Street and St. Paul's Church. But if you want to go beyond all these, you can hire bicycles, some of which can accommodate upto 3 people.
5. The colourfully adorned rickshaw play music..in your language

Even though there is so already much about Melaka that intrigues us, the colourful rikshaws surely stand apart. These are adorned in different themes, right from Hello Kitty to Pokemon. What adds on to the experience is the music that's played as you ride them. Bollywood, South Indian, Cartoon theme songs, Chinese - the bearers will play what you please!
That's all from me! Hope you find the information helpful. Concluding with the pictures I clicked during my trip.
